Purity, substance and finesse: the hallmarks of fine, single-vineyard Loire Sauvignon Blanc.
Production
The ‘lieu dit’ known locally as ‘Le Carroir’ has silex or ‘flint’ at its heart - the soil is light and sandy, shot through with flint stones. The potential of this unique terroir in the northern quarter of the Menetou Salon Morogues appellation was recognised by Henry Pellé as long ago as the 1950s. He planted it using ‘vieille sélection massale’ (cuttings taken from several old vines in Pellé’s vineyards, as opposed to selections of a nursery clone). Such terroirs are now world famous for imbuing Sauvignon Blanc with a purity of flavour matched to structure, substance and a long finish. The grapes were pressed upon arrival at the winery and fermentation took place in a mix of wooden vats, casks and stainless steel vats. The wine was aged on its lees, again in a mix of wooden vats, casks (predominantly) and stainless steel vats.

Tasting notes
Crisp, dry and wonderfully mineral. A fantastic example of single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc from the tiny village of Menetou-Salon. The wine has real substance and displays classic Sauvignon Blanc notes in a sophisticated and delicate way. Pure, intense, sweetly spiced fruit with an edgy yet complex character, and a delicious balance between fine minerality and rich, concentrated fruit. 2018 was a warmer, more approachable vintage and although not as crackly and brittle as in other years, Pellé has adapted its style and made a relaxed wine with lovely freshness and extract.
Food match
Match with seafood dishes such as scallops, mussels, prawns and lobster and perfect too with goats cheese.
