A very new take on wine from a traditional region - this 100% Cabernet Franc has been aged in clay amphora to retain fresh, leafy bramble fruit flavours.
Production
The Cabernet Franc grapes are sourced from the terraces and southern hillsides of the Mangot estate in Saint Étienne de Lisse. No fungicides or weedkillers are used in the vineyard, and the winemaking process is minimal intervention, using wild yeasts and without the adition of sulphites. After fermentation the wine is aged for 8 months in amphorae and terracotta jars.

Meet the producer
Nestled in the far eastern reaches of the Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Mangot consists of 37 hectares with a diversity of clay-limestone soils. Whilst vines are naturally the star of the show for the estate’s current guardians, the Todeschini family, 15% of the estate consists of hedges, woods and embankments, which contribute to a rich biodiversity. Brothers Yann and Karl look after the vineyard management and winemaking themselves and are committed to following sound ecological practises. A lightness of touch and genuine care flows through everything they do; from protecting the soils using only natural fertilisers, to the use of native yeasts and only the very tiniest amount of SO2 in the winery. They do not “make” the wines, but rather guide them into fulfilling their potential as pure, precise and quality expressions of the terroir.
