Villa Raiano have proved themselves to be one of Greco's finest exponents. Believed to have originated in Greece, this is one of Italy's finest white grape varieties, whose style belies its southern origin - taut, mineral and concentrated.
Production
The Greco grapes are sourced from vineyards in Montefusco, Tufo and Altavilla Irpina. The guyot-trained vines are planted in loose chalky / sandy soils, 500m above sea level. Grapes are harvested in early October, and the whole bunches are softly pressed. The wine is fermented and refined in stainless steel, and spends 3-4 months on lees.

Tasting notes
Delicate savoury aromas with notes of white flower, anise and lime citrus. Broad, pithy and mineral on the palate - an attractive chalky note is balanced by pear and grapefruit characters and a touch of white spice. The finish has a mouthwatering saline bite.

Meet the producer
The family-owned Villa Raiano was established in 1996, in the village of Raiano, Campania. In 2009, a new winery was built on top of a hill amongst vineyards and chestnut woods, overlooking the River Sabato near San Michele di Serino in the Southern Apennines.
The Raiano family is dedicated to producing a range of wines from local grape varieties Aglianico, Fiano and Greco - primarily sourced (80%) from 20 hectares of their own organically farmed vines across three DOCGs. Aglianico is harvested from a single, 10-hectare estate in Castelfranci and Greco from two 4-hectare vineyards in Contrada Marotta, Montefusco. They also produce Falanghina from vineyards owned by local growers. The majority of production, however, is Fiano.
